Car Organisation

For the month of April Car organisation is what I am going to be covering as I am sure it is something a lot of mums want to improve on. The kind of things you need to store in your car will obviously totally depend on how you use you car, how long you are in it and how many children you have for example. In my job I am in my car a LOT, I spend a lot of time there and so I want it to be organised like the rest of my life and office space would be for example.

For me organising my car space means a few things-

*Using the space within the car effectively. Every car has storage compartments and consoles that you can use to store your bits and pieces, using this space to your best advantage is the first step. This will help you with some much needed clutter control within your car space.

*Adding additional storage within the car to help me store the things that will not fit in the above compartments that are already in the car.

*Carrying spares and extras of things I might need for a longer trip, toddler emergency/accident, spontaneous swim/beach trip etc, etc.

*And lastly finding a way to store all of the above extras in my car in a neat, orderly and appeasing to the eye way : ) Hopefully the tips I share with you in this article will help you do the same.

My front seat-

This is what I mean when I talk about adding additional storage into your car. I need a lot of bits and pieces during the day as I spent a lot of time in my car and so this seat organiser works really well for me (from Target). This is able to hold my notebook, to do lists, hand sanitizer, umbrella, tissues, wipes, folders, coupon holder etc. It is really is a great little seat organiser and there is still room for my handbag on the seat next to it.

Seat Back- Another idea for additional storage is your seat back. This little storage pocket hangs over the back of my drivers chair, for a small pocket it holds a huge amount of stuff. In here I have Flynn's monkey toddler reigns, my car sunshade and a nappy and wipes travel pouch. I also keep a no water cleansing wash in the side pocket for extra sticky fingers.

The Boot- This is what my overall boot looks like at the moment. As Flynn is nearly 3 we just have a small stroller for the longer trips which stays in the car. This will change with the new arrival but for now I am loving having all of the extra boot space. On the left I keep a trolley cover for Flynn in a clear plastic tote. I use this every time we go shopping and so this lives in the car. A keep a fully stocked nappy bag in the car now as we don't it each time we go out but I have nappies, wipes, spare clothes etc for those accident times. I then have an open green polka dot tote in the boot which holds heaps of bits and pieces for me as listed below.

As I said earlier what you carry is a very individual thing but here is a look at my boot tote and underneath a list of what I carry in there.

*Hairbrush
*Wipes
*Hats
*Sunblock
*Bug spray
*Plastic table toppers for Flynn
*Container of emergency snacks for Flynn- fruit bars etc.
*Plastic backed picnic rug- we use this a lot throughout summer.
*Cup holder for the pram
*Lip gloss, ladies products, hair clips for me etc.

Glove Compartment-

Our glove compartment is a great place for storing lots of bits and pieces but it can also get very untidy. I try and combat this my using Tupperware containers in these spaces to keep everything separate and looking neat. I store all of the car chargers for my car in this purple container- phone, Itouch, GPS, Car kit etc. I then have a smaller container which I use for parking tickets as I need to claim these back through work I need to keep them until they are processed. I find the containers are a great way to find the things I am looking for and also store them in a neat way. I have a similar set up in my center compartment (it wouldn't photograph as it was too dark in there!) I have some smaller containers which hold spare dummies for Flynn and lollies for myself to munch on during the day.

Visor Organisers-

These have been a great $10 spent as they are able to hold lots of little bits and pieces and have them available at arms reach. You can purchase these from most Big W and Kmart stores in the Auto section.

The organiser on the drivers side holds some CD's and also my hands free kits for my phones within easy reach.

This organiser is on the passenger side of the car and it holds a pen and paper and some spare change.

I hope some of these things are able to give you some ideas you can implement to get your own car organised. A few others things I do to keep my car neat is I try to always empty my car each and every day. After spending all weekend in the car as a family is can get pretty messy with snacks, drinks and coffees etc, I try to follow my the rule to empty the car every day and bin everything necessary so that it doesn't sit there for the next day. Starting fresh and with a neat car each and every day is a much better way to start the day.

Some of the other topics I will be covering off over the month are:

*Kids storage, organisation and entertainment in the car
*Using the small space in your door pockets
*Useful things to carry in your car.
For this challenge I would love you to email anything through to me that you would like to share in upcoming posts- a website find, a before and after for photo or just a small note about what you have done and how it has made a difference in your daily life.
